Safety, Loss Prevention and Risk Assessment
Our safety and risk assessment consultancy services cover the entire life cycle of a project from preliminary HAZID studies through detail design HAZOP and QRA to construction risk assessment. Risk assessment is an essential process for identifying, assessing and controlling potentially unsafe designs, actions or conditions by identifying the hazards which are inherent in the oil and gas exploration and production industry, and addressing the risk associated with those hazards.
The following is the range of risk assessment services that we provide.
• Design Freeze HAZOP
• Procedural HAZOP
• Project Definition HAZOP
• HAZOP of changes
• HAZID
• Quantified Risk Assessment (QRA)
• Fire Risk Assessment
• Construction Risk Assessment
• Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA)
Instrument Protective Functions (IPFs) Classification
The classification of Instrumented Protective Functions (IPFs) is a formal technique which analyses the probability and consequences of failure of each function on demand, and establishes a required Safety Integrity Level (SIL) for the function. The SIL is then used to define the Probability of Failure on Demand (PFD) for the IPF.
The purpose of IPF classification is to allow optimisation of the design of safeguarding systems known variously as ESD, PSD, EDP, TSD, etc. IPF classification is based on:
• Frequency of demand
• Potential extent of human injury
• Duration of presence in the danger zone
• Possibility to avert the hazard
• Environmental Impact
• Production Loss
• Equipment damage
The techniques used are defined in IEC 61508: Functional Safety for E/E/PES Systems.
